Community Service Day 2019

SACS administration, faculty, and staff recognizes and appreciates the many types of resources given to help support the education of our children from our local towns and community.  As a staff, we remind our students of the community support and also give them opportunities to give back to their community. 

Starting with the Class of 2020, all students are required to complete eight hours of community service in order to receive a diploma from SACS.  Students will be asked to keep a log of their time and activities they have participated in throughout the school year. 

There are a number of community service projects going on throughout the school year.  Here are a few:   

  1. Good Shepard Food Bank provides fresh produce once a month.  We service over 300 people a month. SACS also maintains a food pantry with canned and non-perishable items, open to the public.  

  2. “Share the Warmth” Clothing Drive.  SACS has hosted this annual event for the last 10 years.  

  3. Senior Citizen Luncheons in Island Falls & Oakfield hosted by SACS students

  4. National Honor Society Red Cross Blood Drive at SACS

  5. “Pink Out” Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Game, all proceeds from the game is given to Cancer Research, raised $800.00 in 2020.

  6. SACS Band & Chorus playing and singing at Nursing Homes in Houlton

  7. SACS National Honor Society & SACS Chorus sing Christmas Carols at Island Falls Historical Society

  8. Collecting canned goods for SACS Food Pantry

  9. Free backpacks for every student in Grades PK-12, secured through a grant

  10. Community Service Day in the Spring, all Grade 9-12 students

  11. Veteran’s Day Luncheon hosted by SACS Elementary

  12. Sunshine Fund, staff contribute to this fund. 

  13. SACS Staff Adopts a Family for Christmas

  14. Once a year, invite elementary parents to eat lunch with their child 

  15. After school Program services 65-70 students a day, four days a week, 2:30-4:30pm
