Southern Aroostook High School senior Barrett Mathers will graduate with honors in June as a member of the Class of 2026. Over the past four years, Barrett has demonstrated strong academic achievement, hands-on skill, and commitment to his community.

Barrett has spent two years in the Electrical Program at Region Two School of Applied Technology in Houlton, where he earned his Electrical Helper’s License at the end of his sophomore year. During his junior year, he participated in a work-study program with Bates Fuel, Inc., gaining valuable experience as a heating and oil apprentice. He has also earned 12 early college credits through the University of Maine at Orono (UMO) and Northern Maine Community College (NMCC).

Beyond the classroom, Barrett is dedicated to serving his community. For the past three years, he has volunteered with the Island Falls Historical Society, helping preserve local history. This past winter, he contributed his time to Northwoods Neighbors, a newly established community outreach program that provides meals to individuals and families in need. He has also supported his school’s food drive and regularly lends a hand with community projects.

In addition to his coursework and volunteerism, Barrett has gained practical work experience with Stiles Construction and Bates Fuel, as well as through numerous side jobs for local residents, ranging from firewood and lawn maintenance to light electrical work.

After graduation, Barrett plans to continue his education at Northern Maine Community College, enrolling in the Electrical Construction and Maintenance program. His ultimate goal is to become a Master Electrician and build his career right here in the state of Maine. Barrett is the son of Kevin and Natashia Mathers.
